Well that question and can be answered in a number of ways and may be it depends on your definition. My definition includes all aspects of online delivery even the chat and online discussion aspects that are mostly done in text and therefor in some definitions are not multimedia. Multimedia is sometimes referred to as just media other than text so as to differentiate it from lectures or hard copy books - both of which do have different media elements such as audio or graphics.
Anyway in terms of online which is the definition I choose the most difficult thing for me is really where to start - that is do I start by explaining all aspects of the tool we are going to use to communicate or do we start with the content that I want to communicate about..
Because most of my subjects can be just as much about the tools as the pedagogical aspects I feel a responsibility to teach the operational aspects of the communication tool first and then try to develop ideas about the content later. Often this is he wrong approach and the students feel that learning operation is more important than what I eventually wanted to cover.
However now I am writing this I remember that just finding out what students think is important is also difficult and then letting go and disccussing what they think is important is also quite diffiucult. That might be just a general difficulty with teaching and learning and it probably is relevant to face to face teaching as well as teaching with multimedia but that is what you would expect anyway.

Hey there Ted.
Hope you are well. Just a couple of questions for you.
Have you had alot of experience designing multimedia materials? If so, what was one aspect that you found difficult to solve.
Im just curious. Also, do you think that online learning is really useful? that is, when used without any other teaching methods?
Thanks.
P.s. I have also posted this message on the subject's blog!
Simone.
